Groundwater Dating Lab Beta Analytic Joins Nordic Water 2012

Saturday, August 11th, 2012

Beta Analytic will be exhibiting at the XXVII Nordic Hydrological Conference (Nordic Water 2012) to be held at the University of Oulu in Northern Finland from August 13 to August 15, 2012. Deputy Manager for European Operations Alexander Shroff will be taking charge of the laboratory’s tabletop display. The ISO/IEC 17025:2005-accredited lab is joining the conference to highlight the practical applications of groundwater dating to hydrological studies.

“I am looking forward to meet researchers focused on groundwater contamination and groundwater interaction with surface water and terrestrial ecosystems. Groundwater dating can be a great tool in their studies. Radiocarbon dating can be used to define aquifer characteristics and predict contamination. The analysis provides a mechanism to monitor, understand, and control exploitation of the aquifer,” Mr. Shroff says.

This year’s conference will focus on catchment restoration and water protection. The program includes oral and poster presentations and special workshops. Keynote speakers are Dr. John Doherty (National Centre for Groundwater Research and Training at Flinders University), Dr. Aaron Packman (Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Northwestern University), Dr. Per Stalnacke (Department of “Water quality and hydrology” at Bioforsk Soil and environment), Dr. Nikolai Friberg (Department of Bioscience at Aarhus University), and Prof. Cintia Bertacchi Uvo (Department of Water Resources Engineering, Lund University).

Nordic Water 2012 is organized by the Water Resources and Environmental Engineering Laboratory of the University of Oulu in collaboration with the Thule Institute, VALUE Doctoral Programme, LYNET, and the Finnish Hydrological Association on behalf of the Nordic Association for Hydrology (NHF).

ISO/IEC 17025:2005-accredited Beta Analytic provides groundwater dating with a standard turnaround time of 14 business days. The lab is based in Miami, Florida, and has sample forwarding facilities in Sydney, Australia; Sao Paulo, Brazil; Beijing and Xiamen, China; New Delhi, India; and London, UK.
