Beta Analytic Receives ISO 17025 Accreditation

Beta Analytic, a leading provider of radiocarbon dating services, was awarded the ISO/IEC 17025:2005 accreditation by Perry Johnson Laboratory Accreditation, Inc., for its laboratory in Miami, Florida. The ISO/IEC 17025 status is the highest level of recognized quality any testing or calibration laboratory can attain.

Beta Analytic’s Miami lab has demonstrated technical competence in the measurement of natural levels of radiocarbon by Accelerator Mass Spectrometry (AMS) and Liquid Scintillation Counting (LSC), as well as in the measurement of the stable isotope ratios of carbon, nitrogen, and oxygen by Isotope Ratio Mass Spectrometry (IRMS).

Specific tests covered by the ISO 17025 accreditation are the determination of (a) radiocarbon age/activity in archaeological, geological, and water samples via AMS or LSC; (b) stable isotope ratios of carbon, nitrogen, and oxygen in organic and carbonate materials via IRMS; (c) bio-based carbon content of natural range materials for any carbon-containing solid, liquid, or gaseous materials via ASTM D6866; (d) bio-carbon content of solid materials like solid recovered fuels (SRF) or refuse derived fuels (RDF) via CEN/TS 15747:2008 and CEN/TR 15591:2007.

The ISO/IEC 17025 is the international standard for testing and calibration laboratories. Only those facilities that have complied with the standard’s management and technical requirements are given the ISO 17025 status.
